EEE1394 webcams

my friend Lee sent me 2 Fire-i cameras to experiment with. At first I had a tough time figuring out how to get them to work. At, present i can record to ogg.they are such nice cameras. One feature they have, which surprised me, is the ability too link them together, like in a chain. Both cameras can feed to the computer at the same time through one firewire connection. Each camera has 2 fire wire ports. I can record both streams at the same time, and I don’t think it matters which port i use for linking to the other camera or linking to the computer.

The laptop I have the cameras connected to has one 4 pin firewire port, it is running xubuntu, and i used ucview to capture and adjust the cameras. The camera selection in ucview is set to YUV(4:2:2) 640×480. The rgb setting is super cool but maybe it’s a little “trippy”. The mono setting also works. When more than one camera is plugged in, each one can be selected in the device selection menu.

Both the cameras are using their external power supplies. They are connected to each other with a six pin firewire cable. Both units must have the external power adapter plugged in with my setup (i thought maybe the second camera could at least feed off of the first).

So far I have no audio working.
